Police are working with schools to help them step up security arrangements after a number of thefts in Watford and Welwyn Garden City.
Officers are also issuing advice to those who work at schools and asking them to be extra vigilant.
The latest incident took place in Welwyn Garden City at Peartree School on Friday (June 17). At about 8.45am a man entered the school and went to the staff locker area where he accessed a locker that still had the key in it.
He took two victims’ purses, one from the locker and another from a handbag, and later a woman tried to use one of the cards at a bank in Stevenage.
The second offence in Welwyn Garden City happened on the same day, between 8.30am and 9.05am, at Swallow Dell School. An offender entered the school using a side entrance and went into three separate classrooms, where he has taken two purses from two further victims’ handbags.
