Space² Watford: Here comes the sun!

A free new exhibition looking at the themes of summer, colour, festivals, celebration and energy, will be taking place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from Thursday 28 June to Saturday 25 August.

Titled - hopefully not optimistically! - ‘Here comes the sun’, the Space² Watford exhibition of work, in a range of different media, is located at the former empty JJB sports shop at 69, High Street, Watford.

A free exhibition preview event will take place on Thursday 28 June between 5 to 7pm.  There will also be an opportunity to meet and watch artists at the new artist studios in the Space² Watford exhibition shop.

A range of events to support this exhibition are taking place. Please see the website for further details: http://www.watford.gov.uk/space2

Space² is a programme of exhibitions in spaces across Watford, and was launched in the spring of 2006. The aim of Space² is to promote visual art in the widest sense, providing a platform for local and regional artists to exhibit their work.

Alex Hugo from Watford Borough Council said: “Space² Watford has been put together by a hard-working group of artists committed to creating a better Watford, and is somewhere for artists to thrive.”

She added: “The council is committed to developing the arts scene in Watford. Allowing local and national artists to showcase their work in empty units is the perfect way to bring creativity and vibrancy to Watford.”

“This is the seventh pop up gallery that Watford Borough Council has created in the town, and is part of the work going on to improve the overall look and vitality of Watford’s shopping areas. This supports existing local retailers by encouraging more visitors to the area and significantly improves the chances of letting the empty unit for the longer term.”

There is a rolling programme of exhibitions in the gallery spaces at Watford Museum, at the Town Hall Customer Service Centre and at other locations around Watford including some empty shops.
